Offering a group benefits plan can be an excellent way to help attract and retain employees.  Group disability insurance can be an important component of your overall plan.

Group disability insurance coverage helps to replace wages lost due to an extended sickness or injury.  Typically, coverage is separated between short term disability and  long term disability. Coverage and premiums are based on the employee's income, the benefit payout, and the “waiting period” before benefits start. Plans can be structured to include both on and off the job injuries.

Because risk is spread out across your entire workforce, per person premiums are usually much lower than if someone were to pursue an individual plan.  Thus, the employee’s perceived value of this benefit is often far greater than your actual cost.
